For android users thanks to Google, it has included a feature in the operating system that allows one to be able to track his or her Android phone or tablet and find out its current location through the use of the GPS locator. The ADM feature in the android OS gave android users this chance to track their lost device and also can use this feature to erase all the data that are on the device so that the third party in whom the device ownership is now transfers to cannot have access to any confidential file or document on the phone.
The best thing about it is that you don’t need to install any app to be able to track your devices. The only requirement is that your device is connected to your Google account, turned on and connected to the internet and also the make sure the ADM is turn on.
How to enable the ADM on your device
- You need to first verify that ADM is installed on your device and enabled in other to work properly. To enable ADM go to the Google Settings on your Android Device.
- Tap on Security under the “Services option” and there you can see Android Device Manager (ADM) if it is installed on your Android device. If you cannot see ADM, it means it is not installed on your Android device and you can install by clicking here
- Let’s say the android device manager is now installed on your device, then what you need to do is to check both the Remote locate this device and Allow remote lock and erase data checkbox under the ADM menu. For some smartphones, the Remotely locate this device is turned on by default. But if yours is not then you need to check the box to turn it on
To be able to track the location of your lost device what you need to do is to visit google.com/android/devicemanager on your PC or any tablet. Login with your Gmail account, the Gmail account that you use on your lost device
Once you are logged in Google will automatically identify all devices that the account is associated with and display them on the top left hand side of your browser. Now select the device that you want to track and Wait for Google to locate your device recent seen location. Once your device data and account is still on the phone, Google will detect the location of your device and you will be able trace it and claim it back.
